Worry, anxiety, impatience, these are all things I let rule over my life for years. I worried about things that never happened, I was anxious for things that I had no control over and I was impatient because I wanted to have everything figured out immediately. That was me two years ago and over the past two years, God has been pursuing my heart to walk in complete faith with Him. This is how He does it.
1. He asks you to give up control.
Easier said than done right? Giving up control is the most challenging thing to do in this step towards living by faith. It’s important to realize that you are not in control of your life. It’s easy to feel like you do, but when something goes wrong you often wonder what happened. God is a planner, a Father, and a provider. He is going to take care of you because He has your best interest. Look back over your life and see how God has provided. How has He guided you in the past? Do you think He won’t do that again? God is good. He is the only constant thing you will ever experience in your entire life.
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. ~1 Peter 5:7
2. He allows you to go through challenges.
You prayed the prayer and gave God control…but the problems are still there. What you need to understand is that God isn’t a genie who will grant you your wishes and take away all the issues. There are still going to be hardships that will lead you to the Lord to lean on Him. Remember, that life goes through seasons, and with each season come things that may make you feel powerless. Look at the one with the power, moments come and go but God is always constant.
Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life. ~Ecclesiastes 7:14
3. He encourages you.
If you struggle to take back control, it’s okay. God’s not going to give up on you! He will continue to work with you. One way He helps is through encouragement. He uses devotions, His Word, and your community. Pray and seek out the right encouragement. Share with a Godly person you respect what’s troubling you. If you seek out God, He will meet you where you are.
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up. ~Proverbs 12:25
The way God breaks down the walls of worry is a slow and challenging process, but over time, He will lead you to a peace that only can come from Him. I’m not perfect, sometimes I begin to rebuild the walls back up, but my Savior is gracious and reminds me of His plans. If He can do this with me, He can do this with you.
Has God been calling you to let go of your worries? How has God showed you His faithfulness?
